CHARLES
KANACH
PRESIDENT AND CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
Mr. Kanach joined the Matria Healthcare
Oncology Program in June of 2001 as Chief Operating Officer.
Mr. Kanach has over 16 years of service in the healthcare industry. He
was Executive Vice President for Magellan Health from 1994 to 2001.
While at Magellan, he was responsible for overseeing specialty managed
care services with sales of $1.6 Billion; and managing services for employers,
commercial health plans and government markets that represent more than 70
million members. He held senior
management positions in sales, marketing and strategic planning.
Mr. Kanach is a graduate of Northeastern University and received his MBA
from the Tuck School at Dartmouth College.
MARGARET JINDRA, RN, BSN, MHM
VICE PRESIDENT, CLINICAL OPERATIONS, WEST COAST
Ms. Jindra has
more than 25 years of experience in nursing and health care management. Before
joining the Matria Healthcare Oncology Program in Sept. 2002, Ms. Jindra was a
director with Blue Shield of California, where she managed more than 100
employees and directed statewide case management and utilization management of
more than 1 million commercial and 100 thousand Medicare Blue Shield members.
In this position, she participated in numerous programs to monitor and
ensure quality, improve interdepartmental communications and workflows, and
reduce health care delivery deficiencies. She also helped develop and implement
a process judged the "best" in the state to relieve transition stress
for Blue Shield members when a medical group filed for bankruptcy. Ms.
Jindra served as a manager and consultant at other health care companies in
southern California where she developed care management programs to address the
complex issues of individuals diagnosed and living with HIV/AIDS, implemented
successful care management training courses, and developed provider assessment
tools. Ms.
Jindra earned her Bachelor's degree in nursing at California State University
Long Beach and master's of health management at California Coast University.
SARA
PARKERSON, RN, MSN, OCN, CCM
VICE PRESIDENT, CLINICAL PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT
Ms. Parkerson is responsible for development of new
clinical products and services for the full continuum of cancer care and for initiatives to broaden
the markets served to meet the evolving needs of our clients and participants. She works closely
with sales and marketing on initiatives to realize business expansion. Ms. Parkerson joined the
Matria Healthcare Oncology Program in January 2002 as Director of Case Management Operations to
manage the MidAtlantic and NE care management service centers and other clinical operations. She
became Vice President for Clinical Operations in August of 2005 with expanded responsibilities for
Oncology Clinical Operations for the Eastern half of the country, all employer group clients and
several large health plan clients. Prior to joining Matria Healthcare, Ms. Parkerson worked in
healthcare consulting with Cap Gemini Ernst & Young, and included projects involving care management
operations, design and implementation of clinical information systems, process redesign and cancer
program evaluation. She has oncology care management clinical experience from advanced practice
nursing positions at John Hopkins University Hospital, Georgetown University Hospital, and other
clinical institutions in Maryland and Washington, D.C. Ms Parkerson holds a Masters degree in
Nursing from Catholic University of America and a Bachelors degree in Nursing from American University.
She is an Oncology Certified Nurse and a Certifdied Case Manager. She has held leadership positions
with the Oncology Nursing Society and continues to be an active member of ONS, and the
Case Management Society of America
EUGENE L.
KOMRAD,
M.D., PH.D
MEDICAL DIRECTOR
Dr. Komrad joined the Matria Healthcare
Oncology Program in February 2000. Dr. Komrad is a surgical oncologist.
He most recently held the position of Senior Medical Director for United
Healthcare of Florida. Dr. Komrad
has worked in both private practice and in leadership and oversight roles for
health plans, including CIGNA, Humana, and the Miami Physicians Group.
Dr. Komrad is a graduate of Boston University. He received his medical
degree from Duke University and performed
his residency and internship at Mt. Sinai Hospital of New York.
ROBERT "CLIFF" OSSORIO, M.D.
MEDICAL DIRECTOR, WEST COAST
Dr. Ossorio brings a valuable
array of clinical, academic, regulatory, and business expertise to his June,
2002, appointment as medical director of west coast operations for the Matria
Healthcare Oncology Program . For
18 years he worked in private practice with cancer patients, specializing in
medical oncology and hematology. He
was also an associate professor of medicine and radiological oncology at the
UCLA School of Medicine. Widely published on the topic, he has demonstrated the
value of training and utilizing primary care nurse specialists in the treatment
of chronic illness. Dr. Ossorio
served on the California State Department of Corporation’s Quality of Care
Task Force for eight years and for four years on the Board of Governors of the
California Senior Care Action Network. In the early 1990s, Dr. Ossorio was
medical director and vice president of Health Net in California where he
developed quality performance measures and incentives for network physician
groups and worked on NCQA’s HEDIS 2.0 National Report Card Project. Certified
by the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Medical
Oncology, Dr. Ossorio earned his bachelor’s degree from Yale University and
his medical degree from Temple University. He completed postdoctoral work in
immunology at the UCLA School of Medicine where he was also a fellow in medical
oncology and hematology.
KAREN MARTEL, RN, BSN, OCN, CRNI, CCM
DIRECTOR, QUALITY MANAGEMENT
Ms. Martel joined the Matria Healthcare
Oncology Program in May, 1997 as a Client Liaison onsite at an HMO. In
September, 2002 she was promoted to Director, Care Management Operations for the
Southeast. In October, 2005 Ms. Martel accepted the Director, Quality
Management position. Prior to joining Quality Oncology, Ms. Martel was nursing
manager for Roche Professional Service Centers’ home infusion/case management
South Florida Office. While at Roche, she received advanced training in bone
marrow transplantation at Emory University Hospital. Her oncology care
management clinical expertise comes from her work as head nurse for a
gynecological oncology surgical practice, as well as medical, surgical and
critical care oncology positions at institutions in Miami, Fl. She holds a
bachelor's degree in nursing from
Barry
University and is an Oncology Certified Nurse, Certified RN in Infusion, and a
Certified Case Manager. Ms. Martel is also presently enrolled in Florida
International University’s Masters in Health Service Administration program.
DALE METZGER, RN,C, BBA, FAACM
DIRECTOR, CARE MANAGEMENT OPERATIONS
Mr.
Metzger joined the Matria Healthcare Oncology
Program in 2003 as Director of Care Management Operations in our Houston, Texas
office. Mr. Metzger came to QO with more than two decades of experience in
healthcare as an oncology nurse, nursing director, care manager, performance
improvement director, and palliative care executive. Most recently, Mr. Metzger
was Director of Palliative Services for the Houston Hospice and Palliative Care
System. He collaborated on development of an education-based, client driven
program to assist people with life-limiting or terminal illness. Mr. Metzger
also worked in the managed care setting, helping to design disease management
protocols and directing the activities of nurse medical review/case management
personnel. While practicing at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, Maryland, he
specialized in GYN/Oncology nursing, assisting patients from diagnosis through
treatment. Last year, Mr. Metzger earned Fellowship status into the American
Academy of Case management.
